About Us
The United Way system is a very simple process designed to unite
individual donations so that maximum value is achieved, multiple charities
are supported and many communities are strengthened.
It commenced in the USA during the 19th Century and now operates in
45 different countries as the world’s largest network of community focused
charities.
United Way NZ (UWNZ) is an independent, non-religious, non-political,
volunteer based organisation that encourages generosity by brokering
resources (money, time and skills) between individuals, businesses and
the community.
UWNZ’s operations are funded through corporate partnerships, service
fees, investment interest, donations and grants.
To keep the organisation’s overheads at a minimum, approximately 150
volunteers nationwide willingly donate their time and skills to help with
UWNZ’s Governance, Committees,

Our Purpose
Many people feel that they would like to help others in need, but don’t know how best to go about it – if only there was a simple effective way of doing it. United Way has developed programmes that enable you to make a real difference in your community by sharing your money, time or skills.
Our Focus
At UWNZ, our investment strategy focuses on supporting small to mediumsized Human Welfare charities that lack the name recognition or size to attract significant funding, but non-the-less provide high quality essential services in the community. We are NZ’s Local Charity – focused on Helping the Helpers.
Our Priorities
UWNZ resources charities that work in the priority areas of:
• Helping children and youth succeed
• Strengthening and supporting families
• Supporting the vulnerable and elderly
• Promoting health, independence and self sufficiency
