Through the International Donor Advised Giving Programme, off-shore and ex-pat New Zealand donors can give to New Zealand charities through United Way.

Individuals (and/or companies) who currently file US tax returns, can make donations to charities in New Zealand through UWNZ, while still receiving the benefits of tax deductibility against their US source income.

UWNZ has an arrangement with United Way International (UWI), which is based in Washington D.C. and is recognised by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) public charity, to facilitate International Donor Advised Giving.
