CHARITIES COMMISSION REGISTERS 20,000th CHARITY
The Charities Commission has announced that it has registered 20,000 charities under the Charities Act, which aims to provide more information about the purposes and activities of charities in New Zealand and increase confidence in the charitable sector.Information about all registered charities is available on the Charities Register, a “live “ database open for viewing at www.charities.govt.nz
To be eligible for registration with the Charities Commission, an organisation must be established and maintained for exclusively charitable purposes. Once registered, charities must file an Annual Return with the Commission, and provide financial information, which is published on the Register. The Charities Commission was established by the Charities Act on 1 July 2005 to register and monitor charitable organisations in New Zealand.
