Don Oliver

Chief Executive
Another successful year in the history of UWNZ has been completed. It has seen a significant amount of effort given to:
  1. The consolidation of UWNZ’s funding structure through increased Corporate Partnerships, wise financial investments and prudent budgeting to ensure sustainability for UWNZ’s operations into the future.
  2. Refocusing of UWNZ’s governance process which has included changing from an Incorporated Society to a Charitable Trust, and applying for registration with The Charities Commission.
  3. Challenging the competition for the charity dollar brought about by the introduction of Kiwi Saver, indifference to regular local charitable giving, international disaster donor fatigue, increased cost of living and a waning international financial climate.
  4. Preparing UWNZ for transition into the family and responsibilities of United Way Global.

Again this year I have had the privilege to meet with many generous individuals, responsible corporates, caring agencies and concerned communities.

I am convinced that the United Way system is a good one i.e. through the power of a simple nationally co-ordinated fundraising effort, we maximise resources to fund approximately 160 local community charities throughout New Zealand.

There is a place for United Way in NZ – an important, vital place. Our funding focuses on values often overlooked by other funders.

Thank you to everyone who is part of the UWNZ system. You help us as “NZ’s local charity” to continue our commitment to meet need where it is most needed.
