United Way In Your Community
These are but a few of the local organisations we are involved with.Otago Charity House Project
In 2007 Otago Polytechnic in Dunedin partnered with UWNZ to build a Charity House. The project saw a number of local businesses supplying products cheaply or gratis, and under the watchful eye of their tutors, students built a 3 bedroom house as part of the Otago Polytechnic carpentry course.
The project was promoted locally by newspaper, radio and realty advertising and the house auctioned on site at the Polytechnic. The purchase price included transportation to the buyer’s choice of location. As a result of this project, Phil Ker (Chief Executive - Otago Polytechnic) presented UWNZ a cheque for $100,000. The majority of this money will be used by UWNZ to support human welfare charities in the Otago region.

The Tindall Foundation
UWNZ is very proud to acknowledge that for the past eleven years a very significant partnership has been operating between The Tindall Foundation and UWNZ. It started when The Tindall Foundation began using UWNZ as one of its Funding Managers to help oversight the application/ allocation process for human welfare charities applying for funding in greater Auckland.
It has developed to the point where UWNZ is now The Tindall Foundation’s largest Funding Manager and manages through its many volunteers the application/evaluation/allocation process as Funding Manager in nine regions throughout New Zealand.
This is a very effective and efficient partnership. Thank you Tindall Foundation for working alongside UWNZ to help make a difference. Your trust in the UWNZ process and your generous funding has made it possible to bring hope into many hopeless situations.

Donor advised giving
During the past year UWNZ has been able to facilitate generous grants from off shore donors to Nelson Provincial Museum, Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre, Project Hope Foundation and KEA.
Through the International Donor Advised Giving programme administered by United Way, off shore donors can give to recognised charities in New Zealand while claiming personal tax exemption relevant in their own country.
