Not every child looks forward to Christmas. According to Statistics New Zealand, about one in eight New Zealand children lived in households reporting material hardship in the year ended June 2019. With Covid-19 resulting in job losses, financial pressure, interruptions schooling and social routines, this Christmas will be particularly hard for many New Zealand children.
There is something we can do about making sure all Kiwi kids have something to look forward to this Christmas. Last year United Way NZ partnered with 28 organisations and groups all over New Zealand to make sure 1022 more young New Zealanders had something to enjoy on Christmas. We’re looking to double that number this year and we need your help.
It’s been a tough year, this is a simple act we can all make to brighten a young New Zealander’s day. Every Kiwi kid deserves something to look forward to this Christmas, so gather your friends, clubmates and work colleagues and let’s get together and make a difference this Christmas.
Changing a young New Zealander’s Christmas is as easy as 1,2,3
1. Gather a team of 10 or more people from work, book club, sports teams, church, coffee groups or friends
2. Choose to order an empty ($10 donation) or completed ($50 donation) box – or a combination of both! We’ll drop the boxes to your home or workplace.
3. Fill your boxes using our handy list of recommended gifts, label them with the gender and age of the child to receive the gift and let us know when you’re ready for us to pick the boxes up
Use existing Sign up form – please indicate whether your want empty or filled boxes and total of both needs to be minimum of 10.
