Dear Drug-ARM supporters
Drug-ARM ‘Art-East’ is a creative initiative for people who are or who have previously had issues with drugs or alcohol.
The group is due to have their first official exhibition on July 15th-27th 2019 at the Linwood East side gallery.
In 2018 one of the first members of the group passed away suddenly which was a shock for everyone. Due to him having been out of contact with living family members for many years a next of kin was not found. He was given a memorial service by his church, but his burial was an 'Indigent Burial' more commonly known as a 'Paupers grave'.
We were fortunate to get permission from Housing New Zealand (HNZ) to get his artwork from his home as everything was to be thrown out. We will be displaying his work in the exhibition with the intention of selling it by auction to raise funds to buy the plot so that a headstone can be put on it to honour his memory. Other group members work and Christchurch artists who either knew him or want to support the cause are donating work for the exhibition to auction.
A number of Glen’s close friends have been a driving force behind this initiative. They would like to extend you a warm invitation to come along and experience this special event
