46 Years of History

We would like to acknowledge the late Dennis Nathan for establishing United Way New Zealand in 1975. This philanthropic act of kindness has provided a 46 year history of giving to local communities throughout New Zealand.

In 2021, we made the decision to step back from United Way Worldwide and rebrand as the Catalytic Foundation.  This move will allow us to focus on local communities and accelerate our social impact. We are dedicated to promoting wellbeing and looking after all New Zealanders.

The functions of our charity will continue as they have over the last 46 years. There are no changes to the structure, staffing or objectives. The Catalytic Foundation will focus funds and resources generated, through working with individual donors, businesses and philanthropists, on promoting wellbeing and enabling frontline community charities.

We invite you to join in our fresh thinking for the rebrand to the Catalytic Foundation, as this will allow us the freedom to work with new technology, ideas and initiatives that will resonate with New Zealanders and accelerate our social impact.

Our 46-year relationship with United Way Worldwide continues through working together on important projects in New Zealand and during a time of crisis, such as the Covid pandemic and the Christchurch Mosque Shootings.

"We are glad to see your continued commitment to help strengthen communities across New Zealand. Thanks again for the years of commitment to the United Way network and your willingness to continue to find ways to collaborate in the future"   José Pedro Ferrão | International President | United Way Worldwide
